Law Enforcement Guidelines

Plivo receives requests from government and law enforcement agencies for user information. We at Plivo review each request carefully to make sure it satisfies the requirements under applicable law. These guidelines are intended as a manual for government and law enforcement agencies requesting information from Plivo.

Plivo will not disclose customer information without a valid subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other formal legal demand issued to Plivo.

Each request must be from sent by a government or law enforcement agency, from their registered email domain and must include the contact information (like email, designation and phone numbers) of the government or law enforcement representative on whose behalf the request is made. Each request must be contain a valid and binding subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other formal legal demand. Each request should have details of the information requested such as the category of the information requested; phone number or other identifiers; time period for which the information is sought.

Notification:

Unless Plivo is prohibited from disclosure or there is a clear indication of Illegal conduct in relation to a customer’s use of the Plivo services, Plivo will notify the customer before disclosing customer’s information. We will not give notice in the case of emergencies, such as threats to a child’s safety or threats to someone’s life, unless we become aware that the emergency or threat has passed. Where government or law enforcement authorities do not want Plivo to notify our customers of their request, the subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other formal legal demand must include a non-disclosure order or contain a specific reference to other legal authority that prohibits Plivo from disclosing the existence of the request to our customer.

Requests from government or law enforcement agencies outside U.S:

Plivo receives requests from government or law enforcement authorities outside the U.S. A government or law enforcement authorities outside the U.S seeking to obtain data from Plivo must work through the available legal and diplomatic channels such as bi-lateral or multi-lateral legal assistance treaties (“MLATs”) or letters rogatory processes. Such international requests may be made to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of International Affairs.

Emergencies:

Plivo may immediately provide information to government or law enforcement authorities, where there are urgent requests and we in good faith believe that such disclosure is required in the interest of public safety or to prevent death or serious bodily injury.
